This was my second time visiting The Pedalin' Pig BBQ in Banner Elk. Years ago on a family trip, I had the sampler platter with the pulled pork, ribs, and brisket. I remember the pulled pork being moist and flavorful, the saucy ribs being tasty, and the beef brisket being tough.
The most recent stop had me opt for my control variable BBQ sandwich with their house cole slaw on the side. The slaw was a really good Eastern NC style. Subtle in sweetness, its crunch complimented the meat's pulled tenderness. The 'cue lacked any presence of smoke. It was a tender cook and generous portion, but lacked any kind of kick to raise the bar. Far from any kind of "OMG" moment, it was a decent sandwich. Far, far from great, but even further from bad, so it'll do in a pinch if in dire straits for a BBQ sandwich sitting in the shadow of Grandfather Mountain. 6/10.
