Now this, THIS is how a BBQ sandwich should be. After disappointing back-to-back barbecue joints in the west, this eastern stalwart in Louisburg (Johnny’s Barbecue) ticks all the right boxes.
From the bountiful portion of moist, tangy meat to the finely chopped sweet pickles in the beautifully balanced white slaw, this sandwich is the very definition of old school barbecue goodness. Sadly, no smoky nose, but the traditional flavor and abundance of highly stacked barbecue makes up for the lack of woody aromatics.
This is the kind of joint I wish was closer to North Raleigh as it conjures up memories of ‘cue from my childhood. Oh, and the fried chicken? Wow!
