Tonight's dinner was a place I've tried to eat a few times in a couple of their other locations, but I always missed them being open by a night or two. Haywood Smokehouse in Franklin was open tonight (yay!), so I just had to give it a shot. Damn glad I did! Awesome barbecue and a great sandwich all the way 'round. The slaw comes on the side for personal choice of how much to add (or eat by itself). Grated semi-small, sweet and creamy with a little carrot, this was the best slaw of the trip by far. Very Eastern NC. The meat was fantastic. The 'cue nailed it in every area. Moist with a hint of heat. Pulled finely as to still have texture and no mushiness. Smokey aroma with a real, honest-to-goodness smoke ring (!!!). And lots of wonderful little crunchy bits that gives it a "east of I-95" pig pickin' feel. 9.25/10.
