Bar-B-Q Center has been on my "BBQ Bucket List" for quite some time. The third day of my roadtrip heading home found me cruising east down Highway 64 through the heart of Lexington, so I'd be loopy not to swing by the iconic barbecue joint.
I fully embraced the Western style sandwich with red slaw (because, you know, when in Rome) and it did not disappoint. The meat was piled super high on a slightly mangled hamburger bun, but thankfully I taste with my mouth and not my eyes.
The meat was quite delicious in every way and offered a subtle wisp of smoke in both taste and aroma. The chop was minced finer than what I usually prefer, but not at all mushy or mealy in its texture. The red slaw was one of the better red slaws I have had. It did not overpower the 'cue at all and was quite pleasant (for a non-mayo based chopped cabbage accompaniment, I mean).
Bar-B-Q Center easily makes its way into my Western Top Five and elbows its way into my Top 50 overall joints. 8/10.
